Do make up wipes help or do they just move dirt around the face?
Make up wipes do not clean the face thoroughly and usually leave some residue behind. They do move dirt around the face, however as a last resort they can be used occasionally when one is tired or travelling as it is better than leaving the make up on.
Do certain ingredients in wipes harm the skin in the long run?
Most wipes are saturated with formaldehyde releasing and other chemicals, solubilizers, surfactants and emulsifiers that allow for easy removal of makeup, which means they can leave chemical residue on the skin and if used incorrectly, they can smear makeup into the skin instead of removing the particles completely. Plus, if they contain alcohol, they can be irritating and cause dryness. Excessive rubbing may also lead to premature wrinkles and lines. They also contain preservatives that can damage the skin.
Should one follow up with a regular face wash?
Yes, definitely. These wipes are not a substitute for washing the face and due to the chemicals, preservatives etc present in the wipes, it is necessary to rinse your face after.
Any alternatives to make up wipes?
Vaseline jelly, Johnson’s baby oil, alcohol free gentle cleansers, micellar water are some of the products that can be used as alternatives to make up wipes. Although following it up with a good rinse using water must be remembered as a golden rule.
